Dr. Mark Emig has announced that Midwest Eye Care is participating in Mission Cataract USA for the 20th consecutive year. Drs. Peter Whitted, Martin Mizener, Mark Emig, and Michael Feilmeier will offer cataract surgery at no charge on Thursday, May 8, 2014, as part of the Mission Cataract USA program.
“We are acutely aware of people in our own area whose needs for eye health care are not covered by their own income or health plans such as Medicare, Medicaid, or other third party payers,” says Mark Emig, M.D. “Throughout the year, we see a lot of patients with cataracts, but yet they have no financial means to pay for the surgery. Surgery is the only way a cataract can be removed, so we are excited to provide these services for the individuals who would otherwise go without the procedure.”
Since 1995, doctors at Midwest Eye Care have participated in Mission Cataract USA to provide cataract surgery with lens implants and follow up care, at no charge, for those who have no means to pay. Midwest Eye Surgery Center will provide outpatient care services for these surgeries at no cost to the patient. The Clarkson Family Medicine will also provide services at no charge. As many as 25 patients will receive free cataract surgery in 2014 through the Midwest Eye Care program. Since the program’s inception, Midwest Eye Care has provided free cataract surgery to over 300 patients.
