Dr. Feilmeier named TOYP of the World

We’re proud to share that Midwest Eye Care’s Dr. Michael Feilmeier was honored as a 2015 recipient of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons (TOYP) of the World.  Dr. Feilmeier received the award during the Junior Chamber International (Jaycee) meeting in Japan in early November.  The international honor follows awards at the local (Ten Outstanding Young Omahans) and national levels.  Dr. Feilmeier was selected in the category of humanitarian and voluntary leadership for his role in founding the Global Blindness Prevention Division at UNMC.  Under Dr. Feilmeier’s leadership, the division has provided eye surgery in Nepal, Ethiopia, Peru, Ghana, Somolia, Kenya and Haiti, as well as to Native Americans living in Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota.  Notable past US TOYP winners include John F. Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Gale Sayers and Elvis Presley.  Dr. Feilmeier is just the fourth American to win an international TOYP award in the last ten years.  Dr. Feilmeier joined Midwest Eye Care in 2010, and provides general ophthalmology and specialized cornea services at MEC offices in Omaha and Kearney in Nebraska, and Council Bluffs, Red Oak and Corning in Iowa.
