Dr. Emig honored for volunteer efforts

Congratulations to Dr. Mark Emig, who received the Harold E. Williamson Award on September 18 at the Nebraska Medical Association annual meeting. The award is sponsored by the COPIC medical foundation and is given each year to recognize a physician’s outstanding volunteering efforts to improve health care in Nebraska. Since 1995, Dr. Emig has been Midwest Eye Care’s medical director for Mission Cataract, a program that has provided over 300 free cataract surgeries to local residents who are uninsured. The award included a $10,000 grant from COPIC, and Dr. Emig asked that the grant be donated to the Wiegel Williamson Center for Visual Rehabilitation at UNMC.  Dr. Emig provides specialized retina services at Midwest Eye Care locations in Omaha and Council Bluffs, and he provides outreach services in Columbus, Nebraska.
