Ophthalmic technical assistant – Midwest Eye Care is searching for cheerful, motivated individuals to assist our ophthalmologists and optometrists in their clinics. Technicians work at our three metropolitan offices and may occasionally travel with the doctor team to outlying rural clinics. Hours are generally 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday, with one Saturday commitment each month from 8:00 to 12:00. Previous experience is preferred but not required. All job offers are conditioned upon the satisfactory results of a background check and urine-based drug, alcohol and nicotine testing.  An applicant who has received a conditional job offer cannot begin working at MEC until the results from the background check and lab tests are reviewed and approved.  There is no application deadline for this position.

ICD/CPT Coder – Midwest Eye Care is searching for an experienced coder in coding surgical procedures using CPT coding.   The applicant should also be familiar with ICD9 and ICD10 diagnosis coding.  CPT coding certification or its equivalent is preferred. Contact lens optician – Midwest Eye Care is searching for one optician to fit and sell contact lenses at our Council Bluffs location and another to travel between our Omaha offices at 4353 Dodge Street and 13500 California Street.  The position may possibly be at any of our three metro locations.  The optician works closely with the MEC doctors to select the appropriate lens materials and design, assess the fit of the lens on the eye, and maximize the patient’s vision.  The Contact Lens optician is also responsible for helping answer patient phone calls, submitting contact lens orders, processing mail, submitting claims to third party vision plans, and dispensing or mailing contacts to patients as needed.   The successful applicant does not need experience in fitting contact lenses, but he or she must have familiarity with optical concepts and be able to learn quickly.  The position requires working closely with patients, so customer service skills are essential.  In addition, MEC utilizes electronic medical records and a computerized scheduling system, so the applicant must be adept at using a mouse and Windows-based software.  Contact lens opticians wear designated scrubs and tennis shoes each day.  This position does include one or two Saturday morning clinics per month, and occasionally Tuesday evening clinics until 7:00.  The position is hourly and is scheduled for 36 – 42 hours per week, with overtime paid for worked hours beyond 40 hours per week. All job offers are conditioned upon the satisfactory results of a background check and urine-based drug, alcohol and nicotine testing.  An applicant who has received a conditional job offer cannot begin working at MEC until the results are reviewed and approved.

Insurance Specialist – This position is primarily focused on contacting insurance carriers for payment of insurance claims.  The primary tasks include appealing denials, checking status of claims and eligibility on websites, as well as calling insurance carriers to facilitate payment.  The position also shares responsibility with the other eight patient accounts staff to answer billing phone calls and provide back-up for insurance counseling for surgical patients.  This position is based at 13500 California Street.  The hours are typically 8:00 to 5:00 but may vary slightly based on departmental needs.  The successful applicant would ideally have experience in a patient accounts or a health insurance position; understanding how health insurance works is a key to doing well in this position.  The successful applicant must be adept at using a mouse and Windows-based software, and prior experience in a medical or customer service role is preferred.All job offers are conditioned upon the satisfactory results of a background check and urine-based drug, alcohol and nicotine testing.  An applicant who has received a conditional job offer cannot begin working at MEC until the results from the background check and lab tests are reviewed and approved.

Registered Nurse – Midwest Eye Surgery Center is searching for a Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in the PACU/OR. Experience in ophthalmology is a plus, but is not required.  This position will work in both pre-op and post-op. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the delivery of nursing care while supporting the concepts of patient-centered care in an efficient and timely manner. An ideal applicant will establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors and other Midwest Eye Surgery Center personnel while assuring confidentiality of patient information. Optician – Spectacles at Midwest Eye Care is searching for an optician to sell and dispense eyeglasses at our 4353 Dodge Street location and our 13500 California Street location in Omaha.  The optician position supports the contact lens department by assisting with patient care and contact lens dispensing as well.  Scheduled hours for this position alternate between 8am to 5pm, or 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday – Friday and include an alternating Saturday from 8:00 to 12:00.  We do require flexibility as opticians are occasionally required to attend 7:30am meetings, and float between our offices in Omaha and Council Bluffs.  We do pay for mileage and travel time between offices if the optician is required to be at two locations on the same day.
