Ophthalmic technical assistant – Midwest Eye Care is searching for cheerful, motivated individuals to assist our ophthalmologists and optometrists in their clinics. Technicians work at our three metropolitan offices and may occasionally travel with the doctor team to outlying rural clinics. Hours are generally 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday, with one Saturday commitment each month from 8:00 to 12:00. Previous experience is preferred but not required. All job offers are conditioned upon the satisfactory results of a background check and urine-based drug, alcohol and nicotine testing.  An applicant who has received a conditional job offer cannot begin working at MEC until the results from the background check and lab tests are reviewed and approved.  There is no application deadline for this position.

Optician – Spectacles at Midwest Eye Care is searching for an optician to sell and dispense eyeglasses at our 13500 California Street location in Omaha.  The optician position supports the contact lens department by assisting with patient care and contact lens dispensing as well.  Scheduled hours for this position alternate between 8am to 5pm, or 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday – Friday and include an alternating Saturday from 8:00 to 12:00.  We do require flexibility as opticians are occasionally required to attend 7:30am meetings, and float between our offices in Omaha and Council Bluffs.  We do pay for mileage and travel time between offices if the optician is required to be at two locations on the same day. Spectacles at Midwest Eye Care sells high quality frames and lenses.  Our opticians work closely with our ophthalmologists and optometrists, and we are one of the largest independent optical retailers in the region.  History of optical experience and ABO certification preferred, but not required for the right candidate. Contact lens optician – Midwest Eye Care is searching for an optician to fit and sell contact lenses at our three metro locations.  This would include 4353 Dodge Street and 13500 California Street in Omaha and 715 Harmony Street office in Council Bluffs.  The optician works closely with the MEC doctors to select the appropriate lens materials and design, assess the fit of the lens on the eye, and maximize the patient’s vision.  The Contact Lens optician is also responsible for helping answer patient phone calls, submitting contact lens orders, processing mail, submitting claims to third party vision plans, and dispensing or mailing contacts to patients as needed.   The successful applicant does not need experience in fitting contact lenses, but he or she must have familiarity with optical concepts and be able to learn quickly.  The position requires working closely with patients, so customer service skills are essential.  In addition, MEC utilizes electronic medical records and a computerized scheduling system, so the applicant must be adept at using a mouse and Windows-based software.  Contact lens opticians wear designated scrubs and tennis shoes each day.  This position does include one or two Saturday morning clinics per month, and occasionally Tuesday evening clinics until 7:00.  The position is hourly and is scheduled for 36 – 42 hours per week, with overtime paid for worked hours beyond 40 hours per week. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

HR Strategy:

  • Strategically plan and implement human resource strategies in alignment with organizational goals, mission, vision, and business operations
  • Identify and implement best practices for human resources, and continuously monitor and measure those best practices to ensure

Team Leadership and Management:

  • Facilitate team building to ensure strong working relationships and provide guidance to the management and leadership team on HR matters
  • Coach, mentor, and guide HR team to maximize their potential success
  • Continuously evaluate and strive to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of teams

Culture and Engagement:

  • Measure, report and implement events and programs to improve employee engagement
  • Build a culture aligned with our mission, values, and aim to be an employer of choice

Development, Training and Performance Management:

  • Identify opportunities to create individual, departmental and/or company-wide training programs to support, develop, and/or improve performance of employees
  • Develop planning models to identify competency, knowledge and talent gaps and develop specific programs targeted at reducing gaps
  • Measure effectiveness of training through employee accomplishments and performance
  • Support the maintenance of the performance evaluation process

Systems Management, Measurements, Analytics, HR Efficiencies:

  • Manage the HR budget and other financial measures within the department
  • Develop and regularly report on human resource metrics that allow the management team and owners to monitor the value of the practice’s human capital
  • Regularly review the HR information system (HRIS) and make recommendations on how to improve utilization and performance

Benefits and Compensation:

  • Develop and implement compensation and benefit plans that are competitive and cost-effective for the practice and its employees
  • Periodically utilize market-based resources and consultants to ensure that MEC’s compensation levels are consistent with the market

Employee Relations, Legal and Compliance:

  • Play a leadership role and/or support managers in all aspects of employee relations
  • Implement policies and procedures according to the federal and state laws and regulations; monitor and ensure compliance with company policies; lead all communication related to laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Stay abreast of state and federal employment laws, rules and regulations
  • Develop and maintain key human resource documents, i.e., job descriptions, evaluations, HR policies and procedures; maintain and protect employee databases
  • Serve as a member of the Compliance Committee to ensure that the practice’s human resource framework supports legal and ethical behavior; identify and correct compliance issues

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of Human Resources management/leadership experience, with meaningful experience in creating and implementing company-wide HR strategies
  • Healthcare industry experience, preferred
  • SPHR, PHR, SHRM-CP, and/or SHRM-SCP, preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of human resource management principles and best practices
  • Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office, web-based software, and computer equipment
  • Familiar with creating and updating web-based social media and other HR tools utilized for recruiting, retention and marketing
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

Insurance specialist – This position is primarily focused on contacting insurance carriers for payment of insurance claims.  The primary tasks include appealing denials, checking status of claims and eligibility on websites, as well as calling insurance carriers to facilitate payment.  The position also shares responsibility with the other eight patient accounts staff to answer billing phone calls and provide back-up for insurance counseling for surgical patients.  This position is based at 13500 California Street.  The hours are typically 8:00 to 5:00 but may vary slightly based on departmental needs.  The successful applicant would ideally have experience in a patient accounts or a health insurance position; understanding how health insurance works is a key to doing well in this position.  The successful applicant must be adept at using a mouse and Windows-based software, and prior experience in a medical or customer service role is preferred.
