Ophthalmic technical assistant – Midwest Eye Care is searching for cheerful, motivated individuals to assist our ophthalmologists and optometrists in their clinics. Technicians work at our three metropolitan offices and may occasionally travel with the doctor team to outlying rural clinics. Hours are generally 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday, with one Saturday commitment each month from 8:00 to 12:00. Previous experience is preferred but not required. All job offers are conditioned upon the satisfactory results of a background check and urine-based drug, alcohol and nicotine testing.  An applicant who has received a conditional job offer cannot begin working at MEC until the results from the background check and lab tests are reviewed and approved.  There is no application deadline for this position.

Patient Registrar – As a patient registrar, the employee will check in patients, input demographic and insurance information, summarize charges at the end of the exam and make the patient’s next appointment.  This position could be assigned to our offices at 4353 Dodge or 13500 California in Omaha, or 715 Harmony in Council Bluffs, so the employee must have reliable transportation.  The hours are typically 8:00 to 5:00 but may vary slightly based on patient schedules.  This position provides good exposure to health insurance basics.  The successful applicant must be adept at using a mouse and Windows-based software, and prior experience in a medical or customer service role is preferred. All job offers are conditioned upon the satisfactory results of a consumer report, credit check, background and urine-based drug, alcohol and nicotine testing.  An applicant who has received a conditional job offer cannot begin working at MEC until the results from the background and credit check and lab tests are reviewed and approved.

Optometric assistant – Midwest Eye Care is searching for cheerful, motivated individuals to assist our optometrists at our suburban optometry clinics.  This individual will also train in optical and at the front desk.    The individual will go between our locations at 7202 Giles Road in La Vista and 18111 Q Street in Omaha. There may also be travel to our other metro locations in Omaha and Council Bluffs. Our operating hours for the two offices are 8:00 – 1:00 and 2:00 – 5:30 on Monday and Wednesday-Friday, 12:00 – 7:00 on Tuesdays, and 8:00 – 12:00 on Saturdays.  The position will work approximately 40 hours per week, with varying time scheduled off to avoid overtime.  Employee will be required to work a minimum of 2 Saturdays a month.  Successful applicants should have the following attributes: friendly, well-spoken, organized and detail oriented, focused on customer service, at ease interacting with patients of all ages and backgrounds, and be comfortable using the computer.  Previous experience is preferred but not required. Optician – Spectacles at Midwest Eye Care is searching for an optician to sell and dispense eyeglasses at our 13500 California Street location in Omaha.  The optician position supports the contact lens department by assisting with patient care and contact lens dispensing as well.  Scheduled hours for this position alternate between 8am to 5pm, or 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday – Friday and include an alternating Saturday from 8:00 to 12:00.  We do require flexibility as opticians are occasionally required to attend 7:30am meetings, and float between our offices in Omaha and Council Bluffs.  We do pay for mileage and travel time between offices if the optician is required to be at two locations on the same day. Spectacles at Midwest Eye Care sells high quality frames and lenses.  Our opticians work closely with our ophthalmologists and optometrists, and we are one of the largest independent optical retailers in the region.  History of optical experience and ABO certification preferred, but not required for the right candidate. Insurance specialist – This position is primarily focused on contacting insurance carriers for payment of insurance claims.  The primary tasks include appealing denials, checking status of claims and eligibility on websites, as well as calling insurance carriers to facilitate payment.  The position also shares responsibility with the other eight patient accounts staff to answer billing phone calls and provide back-up for insurance counseling for surgical patients.  This position is based at 13500 California Street.  The hours are typically 8:00 to 5:00 but may vary slightly based on departmental needs.  The successful applicant would ideally have experience in a patient accounts or a health insurance position; understanding how health insurance works is a key to doing well in this position.  The successful applicant must be adept at using a mouse and Windows-based software, and prior experience in a medical or customer service role is preferred. .
