Ophthalmic technical assistant – Midwest Eye Care is searching for cheerful, motivated individuals to assist our ophthalmologists and optometrists in their clinics. Technicians work at our three metropolitan offices and may occasionally travel with the doctor team to outlying rural clinics. Hours are generally 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday, with one Saturday commitment each month from 8:00 to 12:00. Previous experience is preferred but not required. All job offers are conditioned upon the satisfactory results of a background check and urine-based drug, alcohol and nicotine testing.  An applicant who has received a conditional job offer cannot begin working at MEC until the results from the background check and lab tests are reviewed and approved.  There is no application deadline for this position.

Clinic RN/LPN-C – Midwest Eye Care is a large, fast-paced ophthalmology clinic searching for cheerful, motivated RN/LPN-C’s interested in a challenging career assisting our ophthalmologists and optometrists in their clinics.   Previous experience with injections is preferred but not required.  LPN-C’s will need to be certified for venipuncture.  Excellent customer service skills, positive attitude and strong work ethic required.  Full-time with some travel required, and one Saturday morning commitment per month.  All holidays off and no on-call requirements.  All job offers are conditioned upon the satisfactory results of a background check and urine-based drug, alcohol and nicotine testing.  An applicant who has received a conditional job offer cannot begin working at MEC until the results from the background check and lab tests are reviewed and approved.

Registered Nurse – Midwest Eye Surgery Center is searching for a Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in the PACU/OR. Experience in ophthalmology is a plus, but is not required. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating the delivery of nursing care while supporting the concepts of patient-centered care in an efficient and timely manner. An ideal applicant will establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors and other Midwest Eye Surgery Center personnel while assuring confidentiality of patient information. Optician – Spectacles at Midwest Eye Care is searching for an optician to sell and dispense eyeglasses at our 4353 Dodge Street location in Omaha.  The optician position supports the contact lens department by assisting with patient care and contact lens dispensing as well.  Scheduled hours for this position alternate between 8am to 5pm, or 8:30am to 5:30pm, Monday – Friday and include an alternating Saturday from 8:00 to 12:00.  We do require flexibility as opticians are occasionally required to attend 7:30am meetings, and float between our offices in Omaha and Council Bluffs.  We do pay for mileage and travel time between offices if the optician is required to be at two locations on the same day. Patient Registrar – As a patient registrar, the employee will check in patients, input demographic and insurance information, summarize charges at the end of the exam and make the patient’s next appointment.  This position could be assigned to our offices at 4353 Dodge or 13500 California in Omaha, or 715 Harmony in Council Bluffs, so the employee must have reliable transportation.  The hours are typically 8:00 to 5:00 but may vary slightly based on patient schedules.  This position provides good exposure to health insurance basics.  The successful applicant must be adept at using a mouse and Windows-based software, and prior experience in a medical or customer service role is preferred. All job offers are conditioned upon the satisfactory results of a background and credit check and urine-based drug, alcohol and nicotine testing.  An applicant who has received a conditional job offer cannot begin working at MEC until the results from the background and credit check and lab tests are reviewed and approved.

Contact lens optician – Midwest Eye Care is searching for an optician to fit and sell contact lenses at primarily our 13500 California Street location but may possibly be at any of our three metro locations.  The optician works closely with the MEC doctors to select the appropriate lens materials and design, assess the fit of the lens on the eye, and maximize the patient’s vision.  The Contact Lens optician is also responsible for helping answer patient phone calls, submitting contact lens orders, processing mail, submitting claims to third party vision plans, and dispensing or mailing contacts to patients as needed.   The successful applicant does not need experience in fitting contact lenses, but he or she must have familiarity with optical concepts and be able to learn quickly.  The position requires working closely with patients, so customer service skills are essential.  In addition, MEC utilizes electronic medical records and a computerized scheduling system, so the applicant must be adept at using a mouse and Windows-based software.  Contact lens opticians wear designated scrubs and tennis shoes each day.  This position does include one or two Saturday morning clinics per month, and occasionally Tuesday evening clinics until 7:00.  The position is hourly and is scheduled for 36 – 42 hours per week, with overtime paid for worked hours beyond 40 hours per week. All job offers are conditioned upon the satisfactory results of a background check and urine-based drug, alcohol and nicotine testing.  An applicant who has received a conditional job offer cannot begin working at MEC until the results are reviewed and approved.

Surgical Technician– Midwest Eye Surgery Center is searching for a Surgical Technician to assist in patient care in the operating room.Qualified applicants will have at least three (3) years of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of Surgical Technician. Applicants with less experience, but who have obtained Certification in Surgical Technician (CST) will be considered. Experience in ophthalmology is a plus. The Surgical Technician works collaboratively with the entire Peri-operative team. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Setting up sterile field with all required items for each procedure
  • Planning and discussing each procedure with surgical professionals and assuring that all supplies and equipment are available prior to the surgical procedure.
  • Preparing, organizing, and maintaining highly complex sterile surgical set-ups.
  • Observing and responding promptly to each stage of the surgical procedure and anticipating the needs of the surgeon by maintaining a high level of concentration for extended periods of time.
  • In conjunction with the circulating registered Nurse (RN), performing needle and instrument counts to verify accuracy.
  • Assisting the surgeon by performing such procedures as preparing grafts, irrigating, cutting sutures, etc.

The position is full-time with benefits available. No weekends, holidays or on-call shifts. Laser assistant/Medication Aide –  Midwest Eye Surgery Center is looking for an individual to work part time to assist with various ophthalmic laser procedures. This individual will be responsible for various duties including checking laser patients in, prepping the patient and obtaining any necessary vital signs, and administering eye drops as directed. This individual will also assist the physician with laser procedures and follow all safety procedures.  Medication aide certification from the state of Nebraska is required.  Successful applicants should have the following attributes: friendly, well-spoken, organized and detail oriented, focused on customer service, at ease interacting with patients of all ages and backgrounds, and be comfortable using the computer.  The position is part-time with no benefits. No weekends, holidays or on-call shifts. Hours will be variable Monday through Thursday with a total of 10-20 hours per week. The position will be based at 4353 Dodge Street. Purchasing Agent/Buyer– Midwest Eye Surgery Center is looking for a purchasing agent for all surgical and non-surgical supplies in the surgery center located at 4353 Dodge Street.  This individual will monitor inventory levels and make appropriate ordering decisions in coordination with the MESC staff.  This will include ensuring on time supply delivery, and perform cost inventory analysis and communicate orders to suppliers via electronically or by other means. Coordinate order follow-up with vendor, MESC staff, and accounts payable. Resolve pricing discrepancies as they arise. Coordinate and expedite product returns and complete appropriate paperwork for tracking of issues.
